Acushnet, Massachusetts is a town in Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts. The town was first settled in 1659 and was officially incorporated in 1860. Acushnet was once part of the larger settlements of Dartmouth and Fairhaven before becoming an independent town. The name Acushnet comes from the Wampanoag word Cushnea and is also associated with the Acushnet River, which flows through the area.

Acushnet has a rich connection to the maritime and industrial history of southeastern Massachusetts. In 1841, Herman Melville joined the crew of the whaling ship Acushnet, an experience that contributed to his later writing, including Moby-Dick. The town is also associated with the Acushnet Company, founded in 1910 and known today for its Titleist golf equipment brand. With its historic roots, waterways, and connection to the broader South Coast region, Acushnet remains a distinctive community in southeastern Massachusetts.
