About Atlantic Beach, North Carolina
Atlantic Beach, NC is a town in Carteret County, North Carolina, United States. It is one of the five communities located on Bogue Banks. The population was 1,495 at the 2010 census.
The idea of Atlantic Beach was first envisioned in the 1870s by Appleton Oaksmith. However, construction did not begin until 1887. In 1928, a bridge was built, connecting Atlantic Beach to Morehead City.
Atlantic Beach is connected to the mainland by the Atlantic Beach Causeway to Morehead City. North Carolina Highway 58 leads west from Atlantic Beach, running the length of Bogue Banks to Emerald Isle.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Atlantic Beach has a total area of 2.7 square miles (6.9 km2), of which 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2) is land and 0.35 square miles (0.9 km2), or 12.87%, is water.
